Find it before the inspector does.
UnitTuneUp is a checklist on your phone for owners and managers of Housing Choice Voucher units with a HUD NSPIRE inspection coming up. Walk the unit room by room, photograph what you find, work through the fix list, check again, and keep a record. It runs in your browser and keeps your work on your device.
How it works
- Add the unit. Enter the address, bedrooms, bathrooms, and whether there are fuel-burning appliances. The app builds the room list from that.
- Walk it room by room. Life-threatening items come first, for the whole unit. Then each room shows only the standards that apply to it. Tap Pass, Deficiency or Not applicable.
- Photograph and list the fixes. For each problem, pick the matching HUD deficiency, take a photo and add a note. The fix list sorts open items by due date and shows the severity and correction window HUD uses for each.
- Re-check and keep the record. Walk the open items again, take a proof photo and mark each one fixed. The app keeps the history: what was found, when, and how it was closed.
What you get today
UnitTuneUp is in early release. What works now, and what does not yet:
- The whole walk: the life-threatening sweep, then every room, with the checklist on your phone.
- One photo and a note per problem, with HUD's severity shown for it.
- A fix list with due dates, and a re-check pass with proof photos.
- Watermarked on-screen previews of two reports: one for you, and an "Owner pre-check record" to show your housing authority.
- Your work stays on your device, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded.
- Not yet, but coming: accounts, sync between devices, downloads and paid reports.
- The checklist is still under review: built from HUD's published NSPIRE checklist for voucher units, its life-threatening items have not yet been checked line by line against the NSPIRE standards. The app says so on every walk screen.
What this is not
This pre-check is not an NSPIRE inspection. Only your housing authority’s inspector decides whether a unit passes. It covers only the items checked on the date shown, against the HUD checklist version shown. Not affiliated with or endorsed by HUD.
NSPIRE is the name of HUD's inspection standard. We use the word only to say which standard the checklist follows.
Questions
Do I need an account?
No. Open the app and start. Accounts come later, so you can get your work back on another device, and using one will be your choice.
Is my data uploaded?
No. Everything you enter, photos included, stays in your browser's own storage on your device and is not sent to us. It also lives only there: clear your browser data and it is gone, so take care until accounts arrive.
Does this guarantee a pass?
No, and nothing can. Only your housing authority's inspector decides whether a unit passes, on the day, against what they check. UnitTuneUp helps you find and fix what you can see before then. It is not an inspection and it is not from HUD.
What does it cost?
Nothing today. The walk, the fix list and the watermarked previews are free while UnitTuneUp is in early release. Paid downloadable reports come later, and you will see the price before you buy anything.
